Geography in KS1

National Curriculum

In KS1, children should learn to:

• explore their local area and compare it with other places

• name the four countries of the UK, surrounding seas, continents and oceans

• use simple maps, globes and atlases

• follow basic directions and use simple map symbols

• identify physical features (e.g. rivers, hills, seas) and human features (e.g. houses, roads, schools)

• take part in simple fieldwork, observing and recording what they see
