History in KS1

National Curriculum

In KS1, children should learn to:

  • develop an awareness of the past, using words such as past, present, before, after, old and new

  • sequence events in chronological order

  • learn about significant people and events beyond living memory

  • identify similarities and differences between life in the past and today

  • ask and answer questions about the past

  • use stories, pictures and simple sources to find out about the past
