Key Stage 1 Maths – Place Value

Children should learn:

  • to recognise and use numbers to 100, counting forwards and backwards

  • to understand the value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens and ones)

  • to represent numbers in different ways, including objects, pictures, number lines, and digits

  • to compare and order numbers using <, > and =

  • to solve problems involving place value, including simple addition and subtraction

  • to use place value knowledge to help them understand patterns in numbers
