Music in KS1

National Curriculum

In KS1, children should learn to:

  • use their voices expressively by singing songs and chants

  • play tuned and untuned instruments musically

  • listen to and respond to different types of music

  • experiment with sounds, rhythm, pitch and tempo

  • create and combine simple musical patterns

  • perform music together and share their ideas

  • use basic musical vocabulary to describe what they hear and do
