Science in KS1

National Curriculum

In KS1, children should learn to:

  • ask simple scientific questions and explore them in practical ways

  • observe closely using their senses and simple equipment

  • identify and classify animals, plants and everyday materials

  • learn about living things, including humans, plants and animals

  • understand how to care for living things and the environment

  • describe simple physical processes they can see around them

  • use basic scientific vocabulary to explain what they observe
